Harjinder Singh Thind

Education - Born and raised in district Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Harjinder Singh Thind is a Law graduate from Punjab University, Chandigarh. As a young lad he was the darling of his peers. Around this time he was quite impressed by the principle of equality, which led him to study Marxism. His passion for the Punjabi language blossomed while studying law. He was involved in many debates and won awards for public speaking, including the award for the best speaker. He moved on to the London School of economics in England for further research in law.

Volunteer work & Awards - Harjinder settled in Castlegar, BC upon immigrating to Canada in 1979. After 20 years in Castlegar, he and his family relocated to Surrey, BC. Harjinder fosters a strong sense of community through his volunteer work with a number of local and international organizations. His work has been recognized by many in his community. He is a recipient of the prestigious Queens Jubilee Medal. This medal was presented to him for enhancing the broadcasting standards of the Punjabi Language. Harjinder is no stranger to the world of media.

Media Presence - He has been effective via radio & TV shows, and the movies he has acted in, in raising an awareness among the average person about a spectrum of day to day issues. His journalistic abilities and a thorough knowledge of political and social issues is an asset to South Asian Broadcasting Corporation Inc. In addition, he has proven to be a great asset to ‘Des Pardes’ and ‘Phulkari’ (Music Waves produced TV shows for Vision TV and Shaw TV respectively).

The Harjinder Thind Show - Harjinder has become widely known in the Punjabi community as the host and producer of a popular talk show ‘Harjinder Thind Show’ on Red-FM 93.1. His skillful interviewing and hard hitting style has created a unique and captivating show  in the  Punjabi media. He conducts his shows daily with fervor and passion. Broadcasting has become an effective medium in helping Harjinder  contribute in a multitude of ways to the South Asian Community. His mastery of Punjabi, eloquence in English, and sound knowledge of political and social issues, helps him communicate information and solutions to his listeners. He enjoys thousands of  loyal listeners, who tune into him daily, for inspiration, motivation, information and entertainment. In addition, he has a spectrum of interesting guests to inform, educate, entertain, answer queries and provide solutions, to the day to day challenges of life. There is never a dull moment during the show.

Harjinder Singh Thind appeals to and enjoys the loyalty of quite a cross section of listeners. This is indeed a compliment to his style, ability and the contribution he makes. On one side of the fulcrum is the humble, uneducated, simple, innocent immigrant straight from Punjab, on the other side he enjoys the respect of leading politicians,  doctors, lawyers, and professionals

from every walk of life. In addition, Harjinder manages to captivate the interest of so many young Indo-Canadians who are born in Canada. Some of them attribute their Punjabi comprehension and speaking abilities to Harjinder Thind. He makes a valuable contribution daily to the community and therefore enjoys mass appeal.

Personality & Thinking - Harjinder is a diverse and versatile personality. He is strongly individualistic, a master communicator, deep listener, he expresses himself in a concise and  powerful way,  thereby he  commands the respect of many. Magnetism, depth of  knowledge, intellectual ingenuity, humble demeanor are some characteristics that have contributed to his lasting success. His love for Punjabi literature and poetry, and advocacy for correct pronunciation has inspired the community to maintain a high standard of excellence in Punjabi.  Harjinder is very proud of his heritage and an excellent ambassador who works to preserve the Punjabi language and culture. He provides an  excellent bridge between the Punjabi and Western culture.
